Daynom Templeman

In a short space of time, Daynom Templeman has become one of New Zealand's most recognisable drift figures, and his machine – the NAC Insurance FD3S Mazda RX-7 – one of the most identifiable cars in the industry. Characterised by his aggressive, balls-to-the-wall driving style, Daynom quickly rose to popularity in the local drift scene when the Zenith Motorsport team unveiled its RX-7 to the tracks in late 2008. And he hasn't looked back.

Entering his first event with less than a handful of drift days in the back pocket, Daynom qualified 13th from a 36-car field. He almost beat the eventual winner of the day in his first battle, too, however a slight mistake on the final corner of the judged section cut his debut short. Still – qualifying in a debut drift outing is a feat rarely achieved these days. In fact, in all of Daynom's events to date, he has not just qualified, but shown pressure to those with extensive drift experience, including multiple Top 8 and podium finishes.

A driver by trade, Daynom's illustrious motorsport background is made up of such decorated accolades as twice winner of the Woodhill 100 off-road race, Formula Ford rookie of the year, Australian Formula 3 rookie of the year and championship podium finisher, multiple tarmac rally winner, Toyota Racing Series NZGP podium finisher and multiple midget car winner. Given this multi-dimensional approach, it's plain to see how the sport of drifting and Daynom met in the middle with unfair ease. And it's these past accomplishments that have seen Daynom's professional approach as a driver to the sport of drifting shine through, and why in a short space of time he has risen to be one of New Zealand's top drifters.
